Apple introduced its latest iOS operating system version, iOS 15 in June 2021, which officially released on 20th September, 2021. It introduces new features and improvements in iPhone and iPad which support iOS 15. Let’s walk through some of the new features and capabilities.
iOS 15 New Features
In iOS 15, notifications have been redesigned. Now, notification summary can be delivered as per the time you choose, it arranges notifications by priority (Focus), icons are larger for apps, contact photos have been added for people. Focus feature filter notifications based on users wish to focus on them at a certain time. Enabling DND (do not disturb) feature will show your status to other people via messages app.
Safari has been completely redesigned in iOS 15. It opens with a new start page and it is possible to have it customized. You can now easily use it with one hand as the controls are brought to bottom of the screen. One can simply refresh a web page by pulling it down and there’s also support for voice search. You can now easily swipe between tabs, through the compact tab that sails at the foot of the screen, and group them together. It comes with a new ‘tab overview grid’ view.

Several major upgrades have been made to FaceTime in iOS 15. There is a grid view for multiple people conversations like Zoom and Google Meet. It now features Portrait mode that keeps you in focus and blurs out the background just like portrait mode in Camera app. FaceTime now has spatial audio support that make you feel like the voice is coming from the same direction as speaker located on the screen. You can now create FaceTime links and invite people using android or Microsoft windows to video chat and it can be added to your calendar. The voice isolation mode allows you to remove background noises during calls.
The improved version of Apple Maps in iOS 15 rolling out in four countries: Italy, Spain, Australia and Portugal. User can now find more street-level details in commercial districts, advance information in cities, with custom designs for landmarks. Maps offer an interactive globe view and uses augmented reality in walking direction view. Highway interchanges are visible to you in 3D for better knowledge of on which lane you need to go. Transit navigation has been revamped so that travelers can find nearby stations easily and pin their favorite route.
The Photos app, in iOS 15, can now manually set location, date and time of a picture and its file size. It also includes a new OCR feature for text recognition. In Photos, images now appear in Spotlight search with new interactive memories feature.
The weather app now has an updated icon. This app is redesigned in the way to display more graphics for weather data, a full-screen map and there are notifications also to inform you when rain/snow starts or stops, for your current location. It has a fresh layout design that changes according to outside conditions.
Live text is one of the best features in iOS 15. This feature uses on-device intelligence to recognize text in anything with text when you point your camera to it.
Siri is now capable of doing much more than before. In iOS 15, there’s on-device speech recognition to improve your Siri interaction. You no longer need an internet connection to talk to Siri as now it works offline as well. It is now able to announce notifications and read what is on user’s screen. It learns about typed new words, most interacted with contacts and the topics that you read about, to provide better responses to you.

iMessage now display multiple photos in a stack so it’s now easier to navigate them. You can now pin any content that you receive from a contact. The received content in Messages app automatically appears in a new feature ‘Shared with You’.
